This quarterly Newsletter is intended to include not only official announcements but also news about EURALEX members, their publications, projects, and (it is hoped) their opinions, and news about other lexicographical organizations. The deadlines for winter (December), spring (March), summer (June), and autumn (September) issues are respectively 1 August, 1 November, 1 February, and 1 May annually.

2005 Laurence Urdang Award
Applications are invited for the Laurence Urdang Award, which is funded by Laurence Urdang and administered by EURALEX. Its purpose is to support unpaid lexicographical work of any type, including study. The amount available is GBP £1500 sterling, and an individual award may vary in size from GBP £205 to the full amount. Applications must be received by 30th September 2005. Results will be announced by early 2006, and awards will be presented as soon as possible after notification of the results.
Applications should take the form of:
1. a letter specifying the amount applied for;
2. a statement giving full details of the purpose to which the funds would be put, and an indication of expected tangible results (e.g. publications);
3. a curriculum vitae including qualifications, details of previous lexicographical or related work, and publications;
4. one professional or academic reference;
5. details of funding received or applied for in relation to the project for which the Laurence Urdang Award is being sought.

The Selection Panel consists of the EURALEX President, and two past presidents. The Award is open to EURALEX members only, but applications will be accepted from people who have applied for EURALEX membership and are awaiting confirmation of this. The 3-volume proceedings of the 11th EURALEX International Congress are available for purchase. The cost is 70 euros, postage and packing included.
The three volume set includes the 4 plenary papers given by John Sinclair, Tony Cowie, Pierre Corbin and Christine Jacquet-Pfau, as well as the 106 papers from the congress and the pre-congress work-in-progress session. The congress was extremely rich with papers covering the full range of themes proposed.

Symposium on electronic dictionaries A symposium on electronic dictionaries in Scandinavia, led by Henning Bergenholtz, Århus, was arranged in Copenhagen 18-20. February. Nine lexicographers contributed with papers, among others Anna Braasch; the papers will be printed in the next issue of LexicoNordica. A report from the symposium (by Ruth Vatvedt Fjeld, Oslo) will appear in the next issue of Lexicographica.
The 12th EURALEX International Congress will be held in Torino (Turin), Italy, from 6 to 9 September, 2006. The Congress organizers are the Faculty of Modern Languages and Literatures and the Department of Literary and Philological Studies of the University of Torino and Accademia della Crusca, Firenze.
The EURALEX Congresses bring together professional lexicographers, publishers, researchers, scholars, and others interested in dictionaries of all types. The programme will include plenary lectures, parallel sessions on the topics listed below, software demonstrations, pre-congress tutorials and specialized workshops, a book and software exhibition, and social events for participants and their guests

Papers, posters, and software demonstrations are invited on all topics of lexicography, including, but not limited to, the following fields, which are the main focus of the congress:
The main topics are not meant to exclude any lexicographic topic. Papers, posters, and demonstrations that are relevant to the congress, but which do not fit into any of the categories 1-10, will be reviewed nonetheless and considered for presentation.
There are no restrictions on language of presentations, but unfortunately it is not possible to offer interpretation.
Papers Individual presentations should be timed for 20 minutes, and will be followed by a 10-minute discussion period.
Short papers and project notes There will be opportunities for short papers and project notes. These will be allowed 20 minutes including discussion period.
Submissions may be one of the following types: Contributed papers, Short Papers, Project Notes Software demonstrations, Posters.
All submissions will be reviewed by two or three members of the referees panel. The programme will be selected by the programme committee. Submissions proposing software demonstrations should include a description of the functions, underlying approach, and implementation of the software, possibly an indication of a URL, and hardware/software requirements.
Authors should send five hard copies before 30th October 2005. Email submission may be used in addition, but the hardcopy submission in five copies is mandatory.
Contributed Papers: 6-8 pages, double-spaced;
Short Papers, Project Notes, Software Demonstrations: 4 pages, double-spaced;
Posters: 1-2 pages, double-spaced;

Authors whose submissions are accepted will receive a style guide for the preparation of the (electronic) final version of the paper to be published in the Proceedings immediately before the congress. Contributed papers will be allowed up to 10 pages; short papers and project notes, papers relating to software demonstrations and posters c. 5 pages, in a separate section of the Proceedings.
30th October 2005: Deadline for receipt of preliminary versions of papers, posters, software demonstrations etc. by congress organisers.
1st March 2006: Despatch of notifications of acceptance/rejection.
1st April 2006: Deadline for receipt of camera-ready papers for inclusion in the Proceedings.
Programme Committee: Carla Marello (I), Rosamund Moon (GB), Janet de Cesaris (E), Geoffrey Williams (F) from Euralex Board and Nicoletta Maraschio (I) from Accademia della Crusca. Reviewers will include the above, the members of the EURALEX Executive Board, and additional experts.
Pre-EURALEX tutorials: Pre-EURALEX tutorials will be organised. Topics will be announced later.
Exhibitions: A book and software exhibition will be organised in the coffee break area of the Congress site. Walk-up-and-use software demonstrations (without presentation, not included in the Proceedings) may be given there; however, participants should bring their own transportable PCs or laptops as there will be no technical support.
Registration: Fees will be announced later. An early subscription bonus, as well as a reduction for EURALEX members, will be offered. Coffee and lunch will be offered to the accompanying person.
