EURALEX Congress 2000, Stuttgart

The Ninth EURALEX Congress will be held in Stuttgart, Germany, from Tuesday 8 August to Saturday 12 August. There will be a rich programme of plenary lectures, papers on lexicographical and related topics, debates, pre-congress tutorials, and social events.

The European Society of Phraseology was founded in Bielefeld in January 1998. It has its seat in Zürich. The society's objectives are as follows:

The society's first conference (and general meeting) will take place in Uppsala, Sweden, in June 2000.

The Board members are Harald Burger (chairperson), Zürich; Wolfgang Eismann (vice-chairperson), Graz; Gertrud Gréciano, Strasbourg; Christine Palm Meister, Uppsala; Peter Durco, Bratislava; Jarmo Korhonen, Helsinki; Jan Wirrer, Bielefeld.

Members of the advisory council are Frantisek Cermák, Prague; Dmitrij Dobrovol'skij, Münster & Moscow; Csaba Földes, Veszprém; Peter Grzybek, Graz; Annelies Häcki Buhofer, Basel; Wolfgang Mieder, Burlington; Valerij Mokienko, Greifswald & St Petersburg; Annely Rothkegel, Hannover; Barbara Wotjak, Leipzig.

Membership is acquired through application to the board and payment of membership fees. In 1999, fees were 50 Swiss Francs or 25 Euros for members with a regular income; 20 Swiss Francs or 10 Euros for students and members without a regular income; and 100 Swiss Francs or 50 Euros for institutions.

News from ASIALEX

At the General Business Meeting held in July, 1999, new officers of Asialex for 1999-2001 were elected as follows - President: Sangsup Lee, Professor of English and Director of the Center for Language and Informatics Development, Yonsei University, Seoul, Korea; Secretary: Won-Pyo Lee, Associate Professor of English, Yonsei University; Treasurer: Keun-Sool Lee, Todam Publications, Inchon, Korea.

The Second Asialex biennial international conference on lexicography will be held at Yonsei University, Seoul, Korea, in July, 2001. The main theme of the conferfence will be `Asian Bilingualism and the Dictionary'. Interested persons are welcome to make suggestions and inquiries. A call for papers will be announced in March 2000.

Yonsei hankuko sajon (Yonsei Dictionary of Contemporary Korean), edited by the lexicographical team of the Center for Language and Informatics Developement, Yonsei University, was published in October, 1998. It was the first ever corpus-based lexicographical work in Korea. It is a 2,144 page single volume dictionary for desk-top use.

Geiriadur Prifysgol Cymru

Part 53 (siliceiddiaf-streic) of Geiriadur Prifysgol Cymru (the University of Wales historical dictionary of the Welsh language) was published right at the end of 1999 and is now being distributed. Work on the remainder of the lexicon is well in hand, with the initial drafting of entries having reached the beginning of the letter Y (the last in the Welsh alphabet).

Le Réseau international de néologie et de terminologie est heureux d'annoncer que sa revue Terminologies nouvelles est maintenant accessible dans Internet en format PDF à l'adresse suivante : http://www.cfwb.be/franca/termin/liste.htm. On peut également s'abonner gratuitement à cette revue sous format imprimé en s'adressant à l'adresse ci-dessous. Le numéro 19 de Terminologies nouvelles, qui porte sur le thème ` Terminologie et intelligence artificielle', vient de paraître. Il est constitué des actes du colloque TIA99 tenu à Nantes en mai 1999. Le prochain numéro, qui paraîtra fin décembre 1999, a pour titre `De nouveaux outils pour la néologie'. Il porte essentiellement sur les outils et les méthodes d'élaboration des banques de textes et leur exploitation pour la veille néologique.
